Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, clarified her role during the PTI protests held in Islamabad. These protests followed Imran Khan’s “final call” on November 13 for nationwide demonstrations, demanding the restoration of PTI’s electoral mandate, the release of detained members, and the reversal of the contentious 26th Amendment.
The protests, which intensified on November 24, led to clashes between security forces and PTI supporters in Islamabad, ultimately forcing the retreat of the party’s leadership and protesters from the Red Zone by early November 27. Tragically, the three-day demonstrations resulted in six fatalities, including a police officer and three Rangers personnel. PTI later claimed the deaths of 12 supporters. Throughout the turmoil, Bushra Bibi remained a key figure in addressing the aftermath.
On December 8, accompanied by PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan and MNA Faisal Amin Khan Gandapur, visited the families of two deceased protesters, Mohammad Ali and Tajuddin, in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Addressing reporters, she rejected claims of abandoning the protest, stating, “I am not someone who runs away. I stayed in my car at D-Chowk until 12:30 AM, even under firing.”
She further alleged that her convoy was targeted by authorities, stating, “There are many witnesses, even those clearing the roads. Despite the firing, I stayed as per Khan’s instructions.” These statements underscored Bushra Bibi’s steadfast commitment to supporting her party during critical times.
The visit coincided with the KP cabinet’s approval of a Rs10 million compensation package for each deceased protester’s family and Rs1 million for those seriously injured during the November 26 Islamabad protests. PTI leaders also personally handed over Rs10 million cheques to the grieving families, assuring them of full support. This initiative reflects the party’s dedication, with Bushra Bibi actively advocating for justice and support for the affected families.
