The Sindh government has introduced a new biometric vehicle registration policy, making biometric identification mandatory throughout the province. Sindh Excise Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the policy will be rolled out in three phases to prevent fraudulent vehicle registrations and improve operational efficiency.
Starting from July 1st, the first phase requires biometric identification for registering new vehicles. The second phase, effective from November 1st, mandates that vehicle buyers complete biometric verification. In the final phase, both buyers and sellers must undergo biometric verification for any vehicle transfer, aiming to eliminate illegal transfers and enhance transparency.
Minister Memon emphasized that this initiative will modernize the biometric vehicle registration process in Sindh, improving information sharing within the Excise Department. Citizens can complete biometric verification at NADRA e-facilitation centers or district excise offices.
In addition to the biometric vehicle registration policy, Memon has implemented other reforms to improve the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department. In August, the minister directed that vehicle registrations be handled at showrooms to make the process more convenient for citizens. The next phase of premium number plates issuance is also expected soon, with proceeds going to flood relief efforts
This policy is a key part of the Sindh government’s effort to enhance transparency and efficiency in vehicle registration and transfers.
