Pakistani stage and television actor Javed Kodu, widely known for his unique comedic style and short stature, passed away early Sunday morning after a long illness. The veteran entertainer, who was a prominent figure in Pakistan’s comedy and theatre scene, died at his residence in Singhpura, Lahore.
His funeral prayers will be offered today at the marquee behind his house in Singhpura, followed by burial at the Singhpura graveyard.
Javed Kodu, who lived with dwarfism, spent more than four decades in the entertainment industry. Despite facing physical challenges and societal discrimination, he rose to fame through his extraordinary talent, resilience, and unmatched stage presence. He is remembered as one of Pakistan’s most beloved comedy actors.
The stage name “Kodu” was lovingly given to him by the legendary comedian Akhtar Hussain Albela. Javed Kodu made his acting debut in 1981 with the theatre play Sode Baaz and went on to act in over 150 Punjabi and Urdu films as well as numerous theatre productions across the country. His television performance in the drama Ashiyana remains a fan favorite to this day.
He is survived by two sons, Salman Kodu and Shera Kodu. Shera has followed in his father’s footsteps and is a well-known figure on the comedy show Mazaaq Raat.

According to a statement from the PM Office Media Wing, the prime minister prayed for his eternal peace and extended condolences to his family. He stated that Javed Kodu‘s talent earned him nationwide acclaim, and his death has created an irreplaceable void in the Pakistani entertainment industry.
The passing of Javed marks the end of an era in stage comedy, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of performers and fans.
