Rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, has been arrested in South Florida on serious charges related to a murder-for-hire plot. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Lil Durk is now in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service, following a federal complaint filed in California.
The complaint states that Durk leads a Chicago rap group called Only the Family (OTF). Prosecutors allege that this group is involved in violent acts, including murder and assault, under his direction. Reports indicate that Lil Durk placed a monetary bounty on a rival he was feuding with.
On August 19, 2022, members of OTF allegedly attempted to track and murder a target named T.B. at a gas station in Los Angeles. Tragically, during this incident, S.R., a family member of T.B., was killed when at least 18 shots were fired at their vehicle.
Five OTF members are said to have traveled from Chicago to Los Angeles to execute this plan, and they have all been arrested. Authorities have conducted searches at various locations associated with the group. Lil Durk now faces multiple charges, including murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Durk made his first court appearance at the C. Clyde Atkins U.S. Courthouse in Miami. His attorney, Alek Ubieta, has requested privacy and did not comment further on the case.
At 32 years old, Durk is a prominent figure in the drill rap genre, which is known for its gritty lyrics and strong ties to Chicago’s gang culture. He has made a significant impact on hip-hop, alongside artists like Chief Keef and G Herbo.
Earlier this year, Lil Durk won his first Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his song “All My Life,” featuring J. Cole. His albums, “The Voice” (2020) and “7220” (2022), both achieved platinum status, and he was scheduled to release a new album this month.
This arrest marks a significant moment in the drill rap scene, and fans are eager to see how this case unfolds. Stay tuned for updates on Durk and the latest developments in his situation.
