iPhone 16 Pro Max demand lower than expected, says analyst.

iPhone 16 Pro Max has seen lower-than-expected demand, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s Medium post.

Kuo’s report, based on a supply chain survey and shipping estimates, reveals that first-weekend sales of the new Iphone totaled approximately 37 million units, reflecting a 13% decline compared to the iphone 15 series

The decrease is largely due to weaker demand for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, with its sales down 16% compared to the previous model. The iPhone 16 Pro also saw a 27% drop in sales.

Kuo stated, “The delivery times for the iPhone 16 Pro Max are significantly shorter than those for the 15 Pro Max. This, along with increased shipments before pre-orders, indicates that demand is lower than anticipated, as evidenced by the YoY decline in first-weekend sales.”

While the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have performed better than last year’s models, they have not been enough to offset the performance issues of the Pro Max models.

Kuo also noted that lower demand could be due to the delayed availability of Apple Intelligence, which will not be featured until iOS 18.1 launches in October, and the intense competition in China impacting sales.
