Cillian Murphy Stars as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders Movie

Netflix has revealed the first look of Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby in the highly anticipated “Peaky Blinders” movie. The streaming service announced on Instagram that filming has officially begun.

The post caption reads: “By order of the Peaky Blinders…Thomas Shelby is back. Cillian Murphy and Steven Knight are reunited on set.” A photo of Murphy with Knight, the creator of the “Peaky Blinders” series, was shared from the set.

The film is written by Steven Knight, who is also a co-producer alongside Caryn Mandabach and Guy Heeley. Tom Harper, who directed several episodes of the original series, is at the helm of the movie. “Peaky Blinders” originally premiered in 2013 on BBC Two, and Netflix later acquired the rights to stream it in the US, concluding with its sixth season in 2022.

While details about the rest of the cast remain under wraps, rumors suggest that Irish actor Barry Keoghan may have a role, though specifics about his character are not yet disclosed. Following the recent announcement of the movie, Cillian Murphy expressed his excitement, stating, “It seems like Thomas Shelby hasn’t finished with me. It is very fulfilling to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.”

Murphy recently won his first Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist behind the atomic bomb.
